Slow Girl Summer

I’m sure you have all heard the term “Hot Girl Summer”. If that is your thing, then props to you! But me, I’m more of a “Slow Girl Summer” type.

Now you’re probably thinking “Danielle, what is a slow girl summer?”. Well, let me just tell you. This summer I have taken more time for myself, my husband, our families, and our home more than ever. I have woke up early (most) mornings to see the sunrise and enjoy the start to the day. I have also added a dog and nine chickens to our little crazy homestead, and I have loved having them! Currently trying to convince my Husband that we need a milk cow. This summer I have really found an appreciation for the things in the past. And if you follow me on social media you can attest to that. I have canned vegetables, made countless loaves of bread, and found a love for raw milk and butter. At times I have truly felt like the world around me was flying, and I was standing still. And that was such a great feeling and I don’t ever want to lose it again. The world around us has truly gone crazy. But, why do we continue to let it? Be a rebel. Be the one that chooses family time over the TV. Be the family that sits down to play a game together, or even pray together. Cook a homemade meal from vegetables you have grown in your own backyard. Go on a walk at sunrise and take in the beauty around you. Most importantly just be yourself. It has taken me 26 years to realize that I don’t have to fit in the mold that the world and others have for me. I’m truly to a point that I do not care what others think as long as I am doing the best for me and my family. I came across a quote this week “Do your Best and Pray about the Rest” and that’s just it. We as humans can only do so much. We have to do what we can and leave the rest up to the Lord to do as he sees fit. It has taken me a long time to get to the point of just letting things go and know that he will handle them. Yes, I still worry, just ask my Husband. But, when the greater things in life get wild I have to remember that there is someone bigger that will handle it. So, if this hit you in your heart, just know that you’re not alone. I too am channeling my inner Granny at a very young age and I am proud of it. Make the bread, grow the food, be a rebel. But, most importantly send me a good recipe or a life hack if you have one. Lord knows I need it.
